Design is getting bigger and better in the country. A lot of upcoming designers as well as the established ones are pushing the boundaries and bringing good design to the people.
However, till date, there is no hindi word for 'design'. This is a little project I have decided where I am compiling different hindi words for design. The compilation would be finally put together as a small publication.
I request all enthusiasts, designers, non-designers, thinkers to contribute their appropriate term for design in hindi. Due credit and hopefully a copy of the publication (if it gets sponsored) would be later given. This is a fun-project and I would really be grateful if you could also play along.

The idea sounds interesting. But I doubt if jugaad in its true sense would be appropriate.lol.
roopkalpana....???
Hey Utpal, nice initiative from your side.
As i've analysed till date, the HINDI terminology for 'DESIGN' may be related to "आयोजन" of "योजना"
but if you literally translate the origin of the word design = DE-Sign (re-define)the new formed terminology may sound like "नव + निर्धारण" or "नवनिर्धारण".
But my opinion is in communication what matters is the understanding and not the language. And after all these languages are also kind of expressions for communication which keep changing as per mass acceptance.

Kumar Vyas in his book illustrates beautifully our Indian interpretation of design as 'kala' practiced by the the Sthapathys & artisans in the past.
Taking on from Vyas I feel it could be 'KALASUTRA'.
I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has participated and shared their views on this. I think this is becoming a really interesting discussion. Apart from your comments I have also received an overwhelming response through emails. I'll just post what some friends have mailed me:
